Hits the SpotBy the end of this trip, expect to be an Italian food snob! Here is why. Our first night of food featured soup, with beans and spinach, and eaten with a fork, followed by a course of lasagna with wild boar meat, and a third course of manzo on a bed of arugula with potatoes on the side. Save room; there is dessert and limoncello!
AnticipationOf greatest anticipation is the viewing of the awe inspiring Michelangelo's David. To appreciate the art, you have to know the art. Jamie brought this to life. He had us look at David from one angle to witness an apprehensive David, and from another angle, the same face exuded confidence in meeting Goliath. The detail was amazing with even the veins in his arms and neck standing out.

Adept & AstuteOur guide at the Uffizi was Ricardo. We could not have wished for a better guide to help us understand this wonderful museum filled with treasured artwork. Ricardo is an example of the best that Rick Steves tours bring to each and every adventure.
The CharmWhat to do on an entire afternoon after experiencing grandeur? The decision is made to hike to Piazza de Michelangelo. Not sure what to expect, we find a picturesque Florence. After the glamour of the city, the hill top view is quaint and filled with romance.
IntermissionToday we went to the Mercato Centrale, which is similar to our grocery store, EXCEPT everything is fresh. Turns out, our tour guide (Jamie) is a real foodie! Since we had time prior to our departure for Cinque Terre, he offered to take those interested on an adventure through a typical day at the market. The Mercato is the size of a Wal-Mart filled with many vendors selling their specialties, from cheese to olives to nuts to vegetables to infinity. There is not a can of anything anywhere; there are no frozen dinners and no bags of cookies. Italians like it fresh, and so will you.
